These tools will help if you teach Reading Workshop and have a Reader Response Journal or Notebook. (I call it a Reader's Notebook.)
This includes a list of over thirty "Possible Topics," for students to attach to the front of their notebook. After reading any type of text, students can quickly obtain a suitable prompt for writing a response. The prompts are organized by which type of text they would be most suitable for.
This also includes a corresponding Rubric where you could easily assess the use of the response journal/notebook, and assign a number grade. When presented to students, this rubric helps to encourage thinking and writing about what students read.
