PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is the October packet of reading comprehension passages and complex multiple choice/short & long response questions modeled after the Common Core for 4th grade.

Although the concepts are modeled after Common Core, the elements are for all students to understand.

Use for weekly assessments, pre/post-assessments, progress monitoring, fun exercises... anything you need.

Questions involve; poetry elements, compare/contrast, context clues, plot, characterization, analytical reading, comprehension, reading for meaning, and so much more!

Excerpts are taken from the Common Core Text Exemplars, others are nonfiction texts, graphs/maps/diagrams, and still others are from grade appropriate nonfiction and fictional texts in which I have permission from authors/publishers to use.

There are 7 different exercises in October's packet!

**October's Packet Contents:

1. Nonfiction – The Travelling Honeybee
-Includes map with multiple choice comprehension questions
-Key elements: Map comprehension

2. Nonfiction – Everything You Want To Know About Apples
-Includes; excerpt, diagrams, list (in the form of a flier) with multiple choice questions and short answer
-Venn diagram compare/contrast

3. Nonfiction – Johnny Appleseed
-Includes; passage and picture with multiple choice questions, short answer,
-Key elements: compare/contrast, legends,

4. Nonfiction – History of Halloween and Day of the Dead -Includes; excerpt with multiple choice questions, short & long answer response
-Key elements: Compare/Contrast, Main idea and supporting details

5. Fiction/Poetry – Here They Come – by Leaf Grainger
-Includes: poem/illustrations with multiple choice and short answer response
-Key elements: poetry elements, analyzing a poem

6. Fiction – Can You Say Catastrophe? By Laurie Friedman
-Includes: excerpt with multiple choice and short answer response
-Key elements: elements of fictions, plot, characterization, comprehension

7. Fiction/Poetry – “In 1492” Columbus Poem-Includes: poem with multiple choice and short answer response
-Key elements: poetry elements, analyzing a poem
-Write your own poem (challenge activity)
