These posters were developed from reading the book, Strategies That Work by Stephanie Harvey and Anne Goudvis. There are 10 colorful and illustrated posters, 10 of the same posters without the colorful backgrounds, 2 pages of mini-sized cards, and 5 different titles. The book suggests to teach them in the following order:
Making Connections- Text-to-Self
Making Connections- Text-to-Text
Making Connections- Text-to-World
Questioning
Visualizing Fiction
Visualizing Beyond the Text
Visualizing Non Fiction
Inferring
Determining Importance
Synthesizing
I place the 8 1/2 X 11 posters on a bulletin board and use them on the smart board. These can also be made into larger posters at Office Max. I copy the cards and place them in student response journal. I also cut out the cards and use them in literacy circles and centers. They give the students an illustration as well as questions to use when applying that strategy.
