Hello, I just came across this website, and I am looking for reading strategies to help my daughter over the summer. I am a math teacher, and know very little about how reading strategies work. I read all the comments that people left for you, and ALL were very positive. I am very tempted to buy this binder, but I need your honest opinion. As a non-reading teacher, is this binder going to be helpful? Is is non-reading teacher friendly? My daughter will be in 6th grade next school year. Thanks

Could I use this resource with my third graders? I would LOVE to purchase the Cootie Catchers because I think my kids would absolutely love them but in looking at them I would need to do a lot of specific teaching for each reading comp strategy before being able to implement the cootie catchers & eventually let them make some themselves & use independently. Do you think the resources in your reading binder are 3rd grade friendly? I know I can reword the comp fans, but would the activities in this binder be something 3rd graders can do? I couldn't see that mane examples to determine.

I think because the majority of this product is based on graphic organizers, it would probably work for you. You may find however, that the spaces on some of the organizers are a little small for that cute primary printing. :)

I love your work and your blog and have MANY of your items on my wishlist for this weekend. I have already gone out and purchased all the Van Allsburg books. Anyway, my question is kind of strange but here goes- I read below that you cannot offer the packs as word documents, however, in the States we use analyze as opposed to analyse. I noticed the British spelling in the preview for Literary Elements. I think this could be confusing for my students. Any ideas outside of recreating entire pages of your document, which I'm sure I could never do?? Thanks for the great work you are sharing.

Is it the Literary Elements binder you're referring to? I usually try to create my documents using the American spelling. The funny thing is, I usually use "analyze" too. But for some reason, my spell-checker kept picking that word up and wanted me to change it to "analyse". Let me know if it's the Literary Elements binder - I can do a search to find all the words, change them, and reload the product to TPT. Thank-you for your interest!

Jennifer, up until this year, our board required that the strategies be taught in isolation for 4 - 6 weeks. We've been moving away from that (thankfully) this year, and instead using a combination of strategies for each text we look at. That being said, I would spend some time at the beginning of the year teaching / reviewing the strategies independently.

The reading comprehension binder is a PDF file. From what I've read, you should be able to open PDF files with your activinspire software (http://www.d102.org/kbase/entry/21/)
