This interactive Powerpoint will allow your students to independently practice reading Kindergarten and Grade 1 high frequency words starting with the most basic ones such as "the" or "and" and by the end moving on to words such as "does" and "couldn't". It contains 135 slides (116 individual high frequency word slides and 19 sentences slides), all with audio for the students to listen to after they have read a word or sentence, allowing them to self-correct mistakes.
Everything is set up to work automatically so all the student must do is read the word then click on the right cursor key to listen to the audio. If the student has read the word or sentence correctly he or she clicks on the right cursor again to continue. If he or she made a mistake he or she can click on the left cursor key to try again.
Approximately every 15 slides there is a sentence slide. These slides contain 3 sentences using the sight words that have been presented in the 15 previous slides.
It is very easy to differentiate using this PowerPoint using the "custom shows" feature:
- click on the "slide show" menu.
- click on "new".
- choose the slides you want for a particular student
- name your new "custom show" with the student's name and click "ok", then "close". You are done.
- to open your custom show click on the "slide show" menu, then "custom show", then the name of the show you want to open.
It can also be used as homework - simply e-mail a copy home.

That is so true. Yesterday I sang, what I thought was a funky song with my 1st graders, from a CD with the lyric on chart paper, but they were lukewarm to it. This morning I found a you-tube video of the same song with the lyrics and animation and suddenly they loved the song and sang it with way more energy :)

I'm sorry you are having trouble with the download. I tried downloading it on both my mac and a PC and it worked both times, so the problem may be with your computer. You could try "save" instead of "open" when you click to download. That sometimes help. If you continue to have problems, you could send me your e-mail and I would be happy to send you the file as an attachment. Hope that helps.

I have been teaching for 20 years in a variety of school systems. 20 years ago I spent 4 years teaching ESL overseas and upon my return home to Canada I then spent 4 years teaching French Immersion in K, 1, 4, 5. This was followed by teaching Grade 1 for 5 years at an international school Japan with a large and varied ESL population mixed in with native speakers of English. I am now back in Canada teaching Grade 1 French Immersion again.
