This product includes one paperback copy of the novel, Miracles on Maple Hill by Virginia Sorenson, and an 80 page activity guide written by myself. The book and guide are in a clear, sturdy, polyzip envelope.
Miracles on Maple Hill is a story about caring and building healthy family relationships. Marly’s father has returned from being a prisoner of war and is having a difficult time adjusting. The family moves to an old deserted family farm on Maple Hill in hopes that the process of fixing up the farm and living in this kind of natural environment will help Father recover. As the family interacts with neighbors and learns to enjoy their surroundings, we see the healing power of nature. This is a wholesome, wonderful, heart-warming story that is as relevant today as it was when it was written in 1956.
This book was a favorite of mine while I was teaching, and I have compiled the lessons I developed into a reading guide. These lessons will cover 15 days, or three weeks, of reading class time (and spelling if so desired). They include: vocabulary, comprehension questions, cloze activities, similes, metaphors, journal writing, summary writing, crossword puzzles, word searches, word scrambles, comprehension quizzes, vocabulary/spelling lists, and forms for spelling practice, sentences, and tests. The guide, including answer keys, is 80 pages long. This is a useful, time-saving resource for teachers of grades 4 to 7. I used it in grade 5.
