This is a mini-project designed to take two weeks. I ran it with my Grade 6 students who absolutely loved it! The idea is that they choose a fiction text to read over two weeks (we did a lot of maths to work out how many pages they'd need to read per day and therefore how long they should spend reading each day). The project sheet includes a table in which each day has a specific focus and accompanying ICT task. I ran a shared or modelled reading session for each of the foci and then my students did some independent reading before completing the tasks for the mini-project. It wraps up with an oral presentation in small groups in which the students discuss the book they've read and share all of the tasks they've completed. I made up a rubric for these presentations and the groups each assessed the speakers.
My kids LOVED this and it was a great way of wrapping up term 1. I would highly recommend this project, especially if your students have access to 1:1 netbooks/laptops/computers. It is ICT heavy!!!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Over the past 8 years, I've taught in both Catholic and government primary schools, ranging from grade 3 to grade 6. I've also spent some time working with young Korean students at an English language school, and did some CRT work in a number of different schools. As well as being a generalist classroom teacher, I spent two years teaching PE part time. The past three years have been spent in a team-teaching situation, working with a variety of students including many PSD/integrated students and ESL/New Arrivals.
