This pack is an awesome resource for readers and may be used in a variety of ways.
Included in this wonderful resource is:
*Student booklet cover
*14 graphic organizers that I have created to make them more user-friendly for children
*Reference page of genres
*4 different graphs to keep track of genres read throughout the month
*A reference page of questions to ask before, during, and after reading
*Student goal setting sheet for each month
*Student rubrics for each month to assess the progress throughout the year
*Student self-assessment pages to use for Independent Reading Time
*A reading log to keep track of titles, authors, genres, and whether a book was just right or not
*A variety of reading response pages that children use to rate and respond to literature that is read to them or that they have read
*12 pages of months to help divide the Reading Response Book
I like to put these pages into 1 or 2 books for the kids to use throughout the year. The pages may be used separately and placed in folders or binders, or they may be used as stand alone worksheets, as well.
I have included an outline of how I put the pages together to make a workable book for my kiddos!

I love this pack now that I've been able to download it. I would like to know if it's possible for you to design another page for it, though. My district wants a very specific type of reading record form filled out on a daily basis. Would it be possible for you to dress it up and make it cute so that it goes along with the rest of this pack? I like the design of the Reading Rubric page, but need six columns (the first column would be for student names, the second for "Fluency on Independent Reading", third is "Vocabulary/High Frequency Words", fourth is "Phonics/Decoding", fifth is "Comprehension Skill", and sixth is "Strategies (Re-read to use Meaning, Structure, Visual Info.") and six rows for student names. At the bottom are two lines for "Notes". The title of the entire page is "Small Group Anecdotal Records" with a line for the "Date" to the right. Please let me know. Thank you!

Carol's Garden (TpT Seller)
I'm having trouble printing the file properly. Almost every page has a blackened area where text should be. I tried to open it with Adobe instead of Preview, but Adobe couldn't open it. What should I do to fix it so it prints properly?

Hilary, that would be awesome! The graphic organizers and the reading response pages I would need in portrait. I have a reading focus wall and only portrait organizers and such will work. I figured they were landscape to fit everything. Thanks for trying. :):)

Hi Hilary! I am still trying to download your Reading Record and Response Book. It looks awesome and I cannot wait to use it but it looks like the thick black lines are on it. I have been using Adobe Reader on a Mac and it still won't work! Any helpful hints for me? Thanks!

I'm sorry you are having trouble. Have you contacted Teachers Pay Teachers? They will probably be able to help you out better than I can. Are you opening the document in 'Preview' on your Mac? If you are, then open it with the Adobe program, not preview. You should also be able to print from a Windows machine. Let me know! Sorry!

I think it could be used with 1st graders, especially if you work with them in a small group. There are goal pages that I do with my kids in 2nd grade. I also have them respond to books that I read aloud. 1st graders could write simpler sentences or even dictate to a helper. I have been teaching for 25 years. I have taught kindergarten and 1st grade...then began to loop with 2nd and 3rd graders. I absolutely loved looping! It was so exciting to watch the growth in those little buggers over a two year period....and talk about getting attached! Those little people, their families and I became very close. We stopped looping a few years ago when we changed principals. I'm trying to talk my new principal into letting me team teach with a friend....we just want to knock out one of the walls!
