This book consists of activities and explorations designed to familiarize your students with dictionaries, encyclopedias, and atlases. This book is divided into three sections. Each section contains a table of contents, teaching ideas and extension activities. Dictionary Dynamics - reproducibles in five different formats give hands-on dictionary practice covering word meaning and spelling. Encyclopedia Explorations - includes 19 "Scavenger Hunt" pages which require students to use an encyclopedia to locate information. Tasks involve finding specific facts, reading charts, maps, and drawings, and practicing higher-level thinking skills. Atlas Adventures - a variety of activities intended to encourage students to be comfortable and fluent in using an atlas.
