Use this set of free reading strategy task cards to help your students practice these important skills. Students can answer on notebook paper and use the included recording sheet to keep track of the cards they have completed. Another option is to use these orally in small groups. A suggested answer key is included (answers for most of these cards are subjective, so the answer key is only offered as a guide). A challenge card which can be used with any other card in the set is also included to extend the learning.

This set was created by combining cards from six other reading strategy task card sets:

-author's purpose
-summarizing
-making connections
-inference
-questioning
-predicting

However, the content for each card in this set is new, so if you own any of the other sets, you do not need to worry about repeating the same content. Only the design of the cards is the same. I created this set so that those who already have the other sets could use this set for extra reinforcement or assessment, and so that those who do not own them could give them a try for free. If you would like to purchase one or more of the original sets, you will find links at the end of the document.

These cards will look best in color, but will also print out fine in grayscale. Simply print and cut along the guidelines. Laminate and use them again and again. Alternatively, you could print on cardstock. It works well to keep them in a baggie. Another option is to hole-punch a corner of each card and put them all on a ring.

Hi Rachel
I contacted you a while ago to say that I couldn't download the cards that I had ordered but since then I have been snowed under. Can you please remind me what you needed me to do?
Thanks
Sally

I have printed many of your task cards and my students love them. They actually love the fun filler cards with activities to do. Can you come up with more to use as they have done all the other ones?

Hi Nancy,

Are you talking about the Brain Break Scoot cards or do you have something else in mind? I will try to accommodate, just not sure what you are after.

Ummm, I am so sorry, but no. I made this last year and I am not sure why I didn't make an answer key. I am out of town for the next week, so can't do it now.

Hello! I just wanted to let you know that I found one error that has not yet been corrected. It is on card #2, and it says "He didn't want want to get married." Please let me know when you have been able to correct it so that I can reprint that page. I am looking forward to trying these cards with my class.

(Not a question-however, thought you should know.) There are some type-o's on the cards. I know you would only want the best put out there for your customers, so I hope this helps.

Best wishes for a successful endeavor!

Thanks for letting me know and for being so nice about it (not everyone was). This was a bit of a screw up on my part. Not sure what I was thinking when I didn't send these to my proofreader. In any case, they are all fixed now and you can download the revised version.

Also sorry for the late reply - I was out of town for a long weekend.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Most of my teaching experience is with gifted and talented students in grades 2-4, though I have worked with children of all ages in general education classrooms as well. A few years ago I stopped teaching in order to write nonfiction children's books full time. Gradually over the last couple of years, my career has switched from writing to creating teaching materials here on Teacher Pay Teacher. I love creating teaching products (most recently task cards) and feel just as passionate about my work now as I did when I was teaching. I also love knowing that my products help thousands of teachers and reach tens of thousands of students.
