This package includes two song lyrics that I have written as an introduction/ review of the reading strategies: Reading Just Right Books and Stretching the Words Out. In my room, I downloaded instrumental "karoake" versions of both of these songs (Walking on Sunshine and Turkey in the Straw) and that made using the lyrics even easier. If singing is not one of your favorite things, you might want to look for those instrumentals to back you up as well. These are nice additions to the fluency notebooks we use for practice during workshop. Songs provide a great start to our mini-lessons and bring out smiles all around!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my nineteenth year of teaching. I currently teach second grade. Much of what I believe about teaching evolved during a four year teaching opportunity that I had in a multi-age setting working with third, fourth, and fifth grade-age kids. I believe that truly exciting things happen for kids when we take off labels and limits and leave each to develop at his own individual pace.
