I put together this PowerPoint presentation using images and information from the released 2008 7th grade Reading Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) items. I designed it to help my seventh graders review for the Reading WASL shortly before they actually take the test.
When I take my students through this presentation, I intend to distribute class copies of the reading selections that correspond with the questions included in the presentation (you can find these reading selections here: http://www.k12.wa.us/assessment/WASL/Readingpubdocs/G7R-RID-SE-Final.pdf). Students will read each selection and, following along with the presentation, they will answer a few multiple choice and short answer questions, then review and discuss answers. I have included notes in the normal view to explain why I included certain elements.
Again, this presentation is intended for use in a seventh grade classroom, but I think it could work for any middle-level grade. I am happy to answer any questions in the Q/A section here on Teachers Pay Teachers. Happy WASLing!

Help
This is my eighth year of teaching, and I currently teach 7th grade humanities in Washington state. Curriculum design is one of my favorite parts of the job. Six years ago I redesigned our seventh grade humanities curriculum to change it from a chronological approach to a thematic approach, and I've been obsessively refining it ever since. I also started teaching some online high school courses last year, which has been a great experience for me!
