This workbook focuses on letter-sound relationships, phonemic and spelling patterns, appreciation of common meaningful parts or roots of words and
picture word recognition.
Beginning readers are often insensitive to spelling patterns, but with well constructed reading practice right through the workbook the readers will acquire the feel for the letter-sound patterns that parallel spelling patterns. The activities are interesting and motivating and the content is meaningful.
Words are matched to pictures that give a real meaning to the word. The two images - the word and the picture are linked in the memory. The link makes it possible to look at the word and recall the picture or look at the picture and recall the word. The picture strengthens the image and assists the automatic rapid recall of the word.
This reproducible workbook has been successfully used by
special education teachers and home schoolers.
The use of 24 questions (problems) on each page makes the program compatible with the LUK self checking system. Each page has a grid with answers and a LUK code key.

Hana Jay also writes under her pen name Johana Meyer. In her early years Hana published a number of Educational Papers distributed throughout the Czechoslovakian school system. Hana then wrote under her Czech married name Hana Sojkova. for her work she has received official recognition form the Minister of Education. Hana has a wide range of experience as a teacher and educator (Preschool, Primary and High School, Spec Ed, ESL), deputy principal, lecturer, learning unit coordinator in NSW, Queensland and overseas. In recent years, she has been in demand as a consultant to address specific learning problems and needs of students. Her diagnostic and programming skills have improved the life of countless students and parents in Australia and overseas. She established preps for children with learning difficulties. The schools are using her programmes until today. In response to requests, she has written a series of simple and effective step to step learning activity workbooks covering both Numeracy and Literacy. Hana’s books extend the area of Prep to Middle School. During her 50 years of teaching Hana gathered an enormous amount of information on assessment, planning, programming and teaching that she wants to share, so that many more children and parents would benefit from her experiences.
