This project is designed to provide your students with a glimpse of what it is like to be an adult. They will have a career and earn money every day. During the simulation the students are treated as adults; they have responsibilities, such as making sure they have food to eat, a warm safe place to live, clothing suitable for the weather, and transportation. They will have to make choices and decide what is most important. If students have money left over they can spend it on things they want instead of things they need. Of course, the students may save their extra money for the future.

I am currently in my 9th year of elementary education. I started my career teaching fifth grade. After three years in fifth grade I transferred within my school district to a third grade position. In 2006 I completed my masters degree and attained a Reading Specialist Certification. For the last three years I have team taught with a special education teacher in an inclusion model. I have many experiences with children who are struggling readers. The school I teach at is located in a suburb of Chicago and has a population that is about 90% low-income.
