Realidades Spanish 1 Chapter 1B Vocabulary Powerpoint

This Powerpoint goes with the textbook series Realidades. This chapter deals with describing yourself. Our students LOVE this activity, and as a result we have these for almost every chapter. The first part of the powerpoint is just flashcards. The picture comes up first and then the word does on a mouse click. We use this for vocabulary introduction and practicing pronunciation as well as for vocabulary review before a test.
There are also several games you can play with this Powerpoint. The first one is around the world. In this game, one student stands up beside the desk of a classmate. A picture comes up on the screen. Both students try to identify the vocabulary word. The first one to do that correctly wins that round. If it is the standing student, that student continues around the classroom. If it is the seated student, that student stands up and stands beside the desk of the next classmate. The student who lost that round takes their classmate's seat. The person who is standing for the most rounds wins the game.
Another game that we play pretty often is a vocabulary scavenger hunt. We print the slides in handout form (usually 6 to a page), but we delete the vocabulary words and instead put numbers. We then tape these small slides all around the room. The students number their paper depending on how many vocabulary words we have hidden. The first person to find and correctly identify all of the hidden vocabulary words wins the game. This is fun because everyone is up moving around, but it is very organized because they all really want to find all of the pictures.

Their favorite game is Smack That! At the end of all of the flashcards, there is a screen with all of the pictures. We then use this screen for a game my students call "Smack That." The class is divided into 2 teams. Each team has one representative come forward each round and that person is given a fly swatter. We then call out a vocabulary word. Both team representatives try to be the first person to correctly "Smack That" vocabulary picture. That person gets a point for their team. This works great for review right before a vocabulary quiz. Since we have started playing this games, we have to do it EVERY chapter. They LOVE it and beg us to play Smack That all the time!
