This product is a collection of 7 no-cook recipes presented as reading comprehension passages. The idea is for students to read the passage and then follow the recipe to create the product. After they have read the passage and completed the steps listed, students answer the included comprehension questions. The passages are written in a format similar to many state testing formats, and are great practice for standardized tests without "teaching to the test". Each recipe includes a list of simple ingredients (which can be substituted easily to make allowances for food allergies), simple steps for completing the recipe, and 5 to 6 comprehension questions related to each passage. Many passages also include background information and fun facts about the ingredients.
I use these passages as a learning center with my 3rd through 5th grade students. The passages are designed to be read independently by students reading at a 3rd grade level or higher, and can be completed with minimal or no teacher assistance. None of the recipes require cooking or heating. Recipes include: "Apple-icious Turkeys", "Dessert Pizza", "Yummy Christmas Trees", "Donut Snowmen", "Spooky Witch's Brew", "School Bus Cake", and "Edible Bugs". Each recipe is also available individually through my Techers Pay Teachers store. This collection is available as a bundled package with my other "Recipes for Reading" products. The bundled package contains 27 recipe passages. Recipes have been used successfully with students with special needs. By Rebecca Bettis

I have been a special education teacher since 1998. I currently teach a self-contained cross categorical class of 3rd through 5th graders. I have also taught k-6 resource classes and self-contained classes in the past. I currently teach in North Carolina, but I taught for 4 years in Texas.
