This product contains 10 reading passages and no-cook recipes centered on a variety of high interest themes, followed by 5 to 6 comprehension questions for each passage. The recipe passages are designed to be read by students, and then prepared by students with minimal teacher assistance. Passages can be used as center activities, home-school connections, test prep, Open House or Parent Involvement Night activities, reading comprehension assessments, or in other ways. The file contains 20 pages of reading comprehension practice, a page of teacher tips and suggestions for use, a page of shopping lists for the recipes, a parent letter to send home prior to using each recipe, and an answer key. Included passages relate to the following high interest topics: history of pizza (Make a Super Sweet Dessert Pizza), constellations (Pictures in the Sky), edible insects (You're Eating WHAT?!?), sushi ("Gimme-More" Sushi), Treasure Chest Cakes, Lighthouses, Raccoons, history of trail mix (Good Ole Raisins and Peanuts!), Volcanoes, and Snails. Passages are appropriate for 3rd through 5th grade students.
