This product contains 10 reading passages and no-cook recipes centered on a variety of Spring (Feb. through May) themes, followed by 4 to 6 comprehension questions for each passage. The recipe passages are designed to be read by students, and then prepared by students with minimal teacher assistance. Passages can be used as center activities, home-school connections, test prep, Open House or Parent Involvement Night activities, reading comprehension assessments, or in other ways. The file contains 21 pages of reading comprehension practice, a page of teacher tips and suggestions for use, a page of shopping lists for the recipes, a parent letter to send home prior to using each recipe, and an answer key. Included passages relate to the following holidays and spring events: Lincoln's birthday (Lincoln's Log Cabin), Valentine's Day (Conversation Hearts), President's Day (Presidential Firsts), National Pistachio Day (Feb. 26), St. Patrick's Day (A Rainbow of Colors), National Cherry Blossom Festival (2 weeks each spring), Tulip Day (Tulips, May 18), Memorial Day (last Monday in May), Bird Watching (springtime activity), and the start of the baseball season/ spring training (Casey at the Bat). Passages are appropriate for 3rd through 5th grade students.
