This activity uses a quick review of the Civil War to introduce the chaos and confusion created by the Civil War in Reconstruction. Students then judge 11 events of Reconstruction to note on their "Road Notes" to progress toward full citizenship for African Americans. Images are provided for each event and a bellringer and exit slip are included to start and stop the activity. Also includes an experiential exercise where students are asked to examine having and losing rights.

Page 8 of the power point is the beginning of the activity. The first 7 slides are introduction to the unit and a quick brain starter. As you reach slide 8, students should follow the directions provided to them regarding how they layout their paper and create the graphic organizer. As you view each event from there, they will add the event to the graphic organizer according to the directions. At the end of the ppt, you find the exit slip to assign students or to use as a wrap-up discussion prompt.
Let me know if you need any other clarification!

This is great but it refers to diary entries that I didn't receive with the powerpoint. Are they in a separate file?

Each of the events are the "diary entries" for the students to use in a variety of ways, including the analysis or the timeline activity! They begin on slide 9!
