This packet contains 36 common word families and the more than 350 words they make up. They were designed to help students in grade PK-2 learn word families. Learning word families helps children recognize word patterns as opposed to sounding out every word. This enables students to read with fluency and helps with comprehension. Print the pages out to make a class book, posters or individual student sheets. After practicing these sheets in class, they can be sent home with students for homework. Have your students hang them on their refrigerator so they can be practiced and read several times. This makes a great home school connection. Laminated the word family sheets and the students can use markers to circle words as they read them. They can take turns doing this with a partner or alone in a literacy center. My students use these sheets during journal time too. There is a blank sheet included so you can write a word family in and have the kids write or stamp the words in the family on the lines.
