Many teachers are not entirely comfortable writing report card comments. I have spent hours and hours over the years developing and refining my report card comments. It is necessary to reflect student progress and give feedback to parents, and both groups always appreciate thoughtful comments that indicate you know the children well.

This is a set of trimester ending comments for a sixth grade science class of 19 varied students, including gifted, ESL, all ability levels, and even special needs. The topic for the trimester was human body systems. You probably know that many of these comments can be tweaked and applied to your students as you write your own comments. Why re-invent the wheel?

Do the comments only deal with the human body....I cover cells, force and motion, and volcanoes and earthquakes....Thanks Jack_Duquette@landon.net

Indeed, these comments are not intended to be topic-specific to any one unit(s) of study in science. They are intended to help teachers write general learning, behavior, and effort statements regarding science class, no matter what the units of study are. I hope this helps.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been an upper elementary and middle school teacher for 31 wonderful years and have loved every minute of it. For me, content is the key. I believe the plans, printables, and worksheets I have created have above all else high-quality content, but are also practical and ready-to-use. Each item I sell has been used in my classroom or by a part of my teaching team (teacher-tested) and is clearly written. I won't put any lesson or idea on TeachersPayTeachers unless I am certain YOU can understand it, teach with it today, and that it has value for children.
