After 20 years of teaching research, I have settled on an excellent tool that students feel safe using(reluctant and otherwise).It provides clear, welcomed structure, produces resounding success, and creates a pleasant experience for both teacher and students.

It features an organizer with 29 logical manageable increments (some for grades, but many are not), target dates, actual hand-in dates, and a log for grades earned. These bundled grades avoid the panic and home phone calls caused by 1-2 gigantic grades of only rough and final drafts.
