Most students know that paragraphs in their essays should start with a topic sentence, but then what? This color-coding system helps them identify five types of sentences that should be included in a paragraph. Using this method, students can remove unnecessary sentences, rewrite and organize the paragraph to make every sentence count. Aligned to Common Core Standard 9th - 12th grade W.5. This is a complete lesson plan that includes instructions, worksheets, handouts/transparencies and answer keys. This is an innovative technique that will help your students improve their essays dramatically on their own.
