This is a book I wrote as part of a transportation unit. It is about the signs posted showing animals and people that cross the road. It follows the pattern, "The _____________ will cross the road here." An activity page follows the book, encouraging the class to make their own road crossing sign. The sight words: the, will, and here are practiced in the book. A Powerpoint of this book is also available to download.
A bonus second book "The Car Will Go" is also included. This book shows road signs and the student is to finish the sentence "The car will go ________." and "The car will not go _________." This book practices opposites. The sight words: the, will, go, not, fast, slow, left, right, and stop are also practiced in reading and writing. An answer key of this book is included.
Thank you! I was looking all over for a book that concentrated just on signs to use as an extension to a story in our reading series. The kids used it in one of their centers this week where they drew and wrote about signs they see on their way to school. Thanks again!
You are very welcome! I was amazed when I used this book how few of my students knew about the road signs. It helped build their awareness of their world and picture reading.
