This Rock Star class play, written by Sue Russell, will have everyone rocking in the aisles! It is a must for Hannah Montana fans but the message behind it is a serious one – about maintaining self esteem and being your own person. While glimpsing at the life of a rock star, it deals with relationship issues and the importance of drawing strength from within. Citizenship skills are a key element – featuring large in two of my other plays ‘You are Not Alone’ about bullying and ‘P.R.I.D.E.’ (Positive attitude, Respect, Intelligent choices, Dreams, Effort/Education) which is based on a rather well known Boston Basketball team! All are available on my website www.plays-r-ussell.com
These class plays or assemblies are easy to do, written ‘by a teacher for teachers’ to minimize the time and stress ingredients which can be so off-putting when considering ‘a performance’. Written for a cast of 30 (this number can easily be adapted to a smaller class size), each assembly comes with a seating plan – included so that the children file in, in the correct order, and speak in the correct order!
A suggested selection of rock songs are included which, in my experience, really ‘lift’ the performance, and are chosen to appeal to children and adults alike!
I have written plays for other subjects such as history, science , geography, and one-offs like Valentines and St. Patrick's Day. These can all be viewed on my website www.plays-r-ussell.com which has a complete listing of my material under UK and USA catalogs.
In addition to these 'large cast, plays for performance' I have produced a set of Group Readers which are for groups of 6 children, written in sets of 5, complete with quizzes. These are a great in-classroom resource, for guided reading or 'mini performances'. Again, these can also be seen on my website www.plays-r-ussell.com

I taught in the U.K. for 15 years - temporary and permanent positions plus supply/substitute teaching. I taught all year groups at primary/elementary level and have done some substitute teaching since arriving in the USA. My degree was in History so I always particularly enjoyed teaching this subject, and creating class plays/assemblies around what I was teaching in the classroom - whether it be Ancient Egyptians or King Henry VIII and his Six Wives!
