Since I teach at an aviation/aerospace-themed school, my incoming ninth graders read "Rocket Boys" by Homer Hickam the summer before school begins. This poster project is our opening activity. It has students learn to work in groups, conduct minor research, and create a poster. We then have a poster gallery session to view each other's work. This activity is easily adaptable to any book or subject--you just need to change the topics. By the way, the free PowerPoint in my "catalog" entitled "Teamwork" is what I used prior to introducing this project.

For the past 25 years I have taught everything from junior high (7th and 8th grade) English, including gifted ed, to university English and education, to adult education in a vocational rehabilitation center, to high school English, with an emphasis on AP Language and AP Literature. I currently teach at a STEM school that has an aviation and aerospace theme. I also have nearly ten years of online teaching experience.
