As an introductory activity in learning about the roots of democracy, students are placed in groups and imagine that they are stranded on a deserted island. Students must come up with a list of rules, laws, and morals that every member of their community must adhere to. Students must also come up with ways that they can serve their new community. To close this assignments, students answer and discuss current school rules and ways that they can better serve their school community.
