You can do leveled reading assessment by taking a running record using a book that is close to the child's independent reading level. The running record allows you to record a child's reading behavior and comprehension of the book as he or she reads from the book. Use this binder to keep track of all the running records that you do.
I keep a separate binder for my running records. It helps me stay organized, and can be easily copied if I have a meeting to attend, or if parents want more information on a student. I use a tab for each student, and I keep everything organized.
Use my binder template to start your own. I have also included a retelling rubric to see how much the student comprehends.
