How do you communicate your expectations for “paying attention” in your classroom?
Use the S.L.A.N.T. acronym to teach your students HOW to pay attention.
How to use this product:
*I copy these pages onto colored cardstock and laminate these pieces. I stapled them to the bulletin board in the front of my classroom for constant reference.
*In the beginning of introducing these expectations, I teach one of the components for a few days to solidify understanding.
*I say things like, “In 5 I need you in SLANT, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…I see___ (name) in SLANT, etc”, “I love (name’s) SLANT”
*SLANT is not my idea. I learned this in a graduate school class and read about it in Teach Like a Champion by Doug Lemov. I highly suggest buying this book! There are so many great classroom management and student engagement techniques in this book.
