SOLVE IT! This 12-page math packet for January is the perfect way to get the attention of students right away. Use the problems to sharpen problem-solving skills and reinforce computation skills. The packet includes notes to the teacher, 7 pages of math problems, and a key for the teacher. The problems use the 100-number board as an aid to finding a solution. Use 1 page a day for a great opening activity! I have students complete the problems individually and then meet with a partner to discuss and share solutions, capped by whole-group sharing of the best methods to solve each problem. Students will discover patterns, review math vocabulary, and apply math skills while they have fun in the process!

My 5th graders love these. We do one a week for morning work then go over it. I love the math vocab they're introduced to before we get to them in our lessons (such as multiples) or reminded of from 4th grade. I find these to be just right for the ability levels of most of my students--challenging enough with the logic they need to use but not so difficult they are unwilling to work at them.

I love using these logic problems for my higher students in 4th grade. I have a small group that used the holiday set and just completed this January set. They can't wait for more.
We found an error on one of the problems. I believe the answer for "Movie Party" should be 52 and not 16. The third clue (The tens digit is greater than the ones digit) eliminates 16.

As a teacher, I specialized in middle school language arts and mathematics. Since retiring from the K-12 system, I have been teaching curriculum and education courses at the bachelors' and masters' degree levels as well as supervising student teachers.
