Same, but Different is an introductory activity that shows the relationship between beginning multiplication facts and addition.
Students use 2 number cubes (or dice) to generate numbers for a multiplication fact. They use one number to represent the number of groups and the other number to represent how many are in each group. Student then draw pictures to show the groups (or use real objects), record their actions as an addition fact AND as a multiplication fact.
An easy to follow directions card is provided to walk children through each step as they explore the relationship between multiplication and addition. This activity may be used as a learning center, small group instruction or independent practice.
