Your exploration of the scientific process starts with a simple exploration of what happens to an M&M in water. Students will brainstorm observations using a coooperative learning structure and determine the difference between factual and opinion-based observations.
Next, you will actually guide students through the scientific process with a short exploration that involves changing one variable from original test. Students create flip books to hypothesize, observe, and draw conclusions with you.
Finally, students will understand what makes a good testable question and brainstorm further testable questions. Students will select a focus question for testing and form groups to complete the process on their own.
This is a great resource! I have been doing things like this but such a great way to change doing an experiment and learning about the steps for science fair. Our school requires the students to complete individual projects, but I will be using this as a whole class project, then group project before brainstorming on their individual project! :) Thanks.
