Give your students a fun way to review the water cycle with this themed file folder game, A Day at the Beach. Your students will love the break from routine, and you'll love students' improved recall of science concepts and the preparation for standardized testing.

Students answer question cards about the water cycle to take turns around the board. "Dive In!" cards offer twists to the game, such as losing a turn or jumping ahead.

Science concepts and vocabulary included: order of the water cycle, evaporation, condensation, precipitation, runoff, transpiration, states of water, melting, freezing, types of precipitation, freezing and boiling points in Fahrenheit and Celsius, heat transfer, molecules, rain gauge, collection, ground water, Earth's water, hydrologic cycle, and cloud formation.

The game includes a cover, teacher and student directions, a 2-page game board, 60 question cards, and 15 Dive In! cards, all pieces full-color. The cards are also included in a separate, editable Microsoft Publisher file and a PDF file of blank cards if you would like to change them or create your own questions. Please note that the PDF file is an editable form. You will be able to type your own questions on blank cards. You can edit the text of my questions in the Publisher file, but you must have Microsoft Publisher to do so. Either way, you have the full game in PDF form whether you choose to use the customizable cards or not. You can also customize the game to your curriculum by removing cards that are not relevant to what you teach.

Simply assemble the game and you will have a great activity for individuals, small groups, or for centers. Since it is a digital file, you can make as many as you like for one classroom. You can even make enough copies for the whole class to play at once!

If you like the activity, please leave feedback and check out my other products. I have many file folder games in my catalog, including a game to review your space and solar system unit called Space Adventure. Please do not copy this activity for another teacher, an entire grade level, or a school. If your colleagues like the activity, please send them to Teachers Pay Teachers!

The way the game is set up it doesn't have to be any certain number, but for management purposes and keeping them engaged I would keep it to 4 or so per board. Remember you can print and assemble as many as you'd like.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Grades Taught:
Subject Area:

I have been a public school teacher in a highly respected district in the Atlanta metro area for the past 12 years. I have taught very diverse students, usually all together in one group! After teaching fourth grade for ten years, I am now teaching a computer lab special to 3 and 4 year olds, and loving it! I am also the technology coordinator for my public, special needs school. You never know what changes life will bring!
