It's all about stations!
The stations are the same each week; you just trade out materials for the concept you choose to teach or review.
Station 1- Read and Comprehend (one-page, low fluency, high level concept reading passage with summarization graphic organizer and sentence stems for students to complete)
Station 2- Exploration (hands-on activity to create a model or diagram)
Station 3- Organize It! (using a graphic organizer or diagram to help students organize abstract concepts in a concrete, visual way)
Station 4- Center Activity (hands-on activity to explore concept)
Station 5- Vocabulary (cut and paste matching of concept terms and definitions and a Vocabulary Four Square for one important term)

There are no common core science standards in place, yet. However, many teachers have mentioned using them as part of their literacy stations to support common core curriculum.

I am confused how to map out the terms in station three. Can you tell me what you had in mind.

Laminate and cut out the Station 3 Cards at the end of the file. Use toothpicks or yarn to connect the terms. For example, "States of Matter" might go in the middle with connectors to "solid", "liquid", and "gas". Then, students might put "melting" connecting to "liquid" and "solid". There are a lot of possibilities for students to show how they connect the terms together.
