My students love to practice their weekly spelling words in a variety of ways. One of our favorite activities is writing our words in a secret code. For this activity I use a simple number substitution code (A=1, B=2, etc.). There is space for 10 spelling words on this sheet, but you can modify it to fit your needs.

Love it, however, I wish the lines were a little bigger for 2nd graders and the alphabets and codes where a little bigger as well. Great idea!

I have been teaching for 17 years at the same school in Mandeville, Louisiana. I taught 1st grade for six years and have taught 2nd grade for eleven years. I was the director of our summer camp for three years and have worked both before and after school programs. I also worked as the web manager and technology point person for our school.
