Secret formulas sessions
(modified and adapted from LHS GEMS science guide by Rebecca Tilley and Carolyn Willard)
File includes 3 sessions from the LHS GEMS guide with modified or adapted directions and include student "lab packets". Packets focus on science processes ("being a scientist"). Materials organizer and sample parent letter for supply donations are included.
Session 1 is Making Paste and focus is for students to explore measurement ideas while testing ingredients. Includes preparation directions, teacher notes for 2 parts of the experiment, facilitator directions (parent volunteers) and 7 page student lab packet.
Session 2 is "Cola ingredient" and features using "taste" to test as well as liquid measurement. Includes preparation directions (with photos), activity/facilitator directions, teacher discussion directions, and 5 page student lab packet.
Session 3 is "Cola invention" where students use measuring principles and information learned from first 2 sessions to "invent" their own formula for cola. Includes prep list and teacher directions, prep list with facilitator notes, student lab notes, student page for class book and class book cover.
