This is an essay assignment comparing the various lovers from A Midsummer Night's Dream and Much Ado About Nothing.
If your class is reading one of the plays, I recommend showing a film of the other. (My recommendations are in the preview of this assignment.) Using the films is also an effective alternate for students who are absent since they can view what they miss from home.
Either way this assessment is an appropriate test of whether or not students have actually paid attention, since there are no Spark Notes on which they can rely.
