A fun way to get students to review the spelling of homophones. It's a great activity for test prep and review, holidays, the last day or week of school, or other filler days.
I usually hate "test prep." But let's be honest: we all want to review a bit before sending our students into spring state tests to make sure they can do their best. "Language Knockout" is a fun, interactive way for students to review some of the most commonly misspelled words in the English language--homophones. In the game, students will play in teams to find answer questions based on example sentences.
The game covers the following homophone sets:
There / Their / They're
Your / You're
Where / Wear
Its / It's
Here / Hear
To / Two / Too
Which / Witch
Effect / Affect
Then / Than
Past / Passed
Who's / Whose
Lead / Led
Weather / Whether
Lose / Loose
"Shootout" is intended to be used as a competitive game show, but it could also be used for a fun full-class activity or done with partners.
This PowerPoint game has almost sixty possible questions, complete with hundreds of fun, interactive animations, sound clips, and navigation buttons. NOTE that there is one font you will need to install to get the game to look like the preview pictures, which only takes a few seconds.
To get a quick taste of the game, download the FREE PREVIEW at the top of this page. You'll be able to see a sample of the first category of the game and get a feel for how the menus and navigation work.
This game is just one in a series of fun test-prep review games. Check out the others:
