Short Vowel Sound Phonics Open Ended Worksheets
These simple grids allow for repeated practice of short vowel sounds in an initial consonant/short vowel sound/ending consonant format (CVC). As the children search for the sounds that make up words, their decoding of nonsense words is equally important as their phonemic awareness develops. I begin with the first short a worksheet as a whole group activity. Once directions are clear, I often make grids with letters the children would like to use. This is another way to assess if a particular child understands the difference between vowels and consonants. With these activities, the discussions while looking for words are at least as important as finding the words. The grids can be used over and over with new consonants. Letter combinations like th, sh, ch, wh, ll, ss, etc. may be used as well. Let me know how it goes. Patti

I saw your posting on the Sellers Forum page of Teachers Pay Teachers; so, I thought I would look at your freebie. Since you are new to TPT, here are a few suggestions that might help you to better market your products.
First, make a cover page for EVERY product you create which can then be used as an attractive thumbnail to entice buyers. Move your directions to the second page so immediately your buyer knows how to use your product. Use the footer to put the copyright symbol, your name and date of creation on EVERY page. Items, especially free ones, have been "stolen" from TPT and posted on other sites to be sold. You have to protect all of your creations. Also, number your pages.
I think it is important that we see what others are doing; so, feel free to look at any or all of my freebies listed below. If you care to, a rating or any feedback you might have would be great. I always like feedback from new people.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching since 1979 and have enjoyed every minute of it! I have always been involved with reading and books. I served as my school's librarian for six years. Over the years I have done a little bit of everything. This makes for an interesting perspective. One of my joys was a literary club. We met once a week in the library. From grades one through seven, children communed with the books and wrote wonderful stories. The student mentoring and sharing of ideas was a thrill to watch. I enjoyed providing the opportunity then stepping back so as not to get in the way!
