This is an exploration activity using connecting cubes or base-10 blocks. Children use a Place Value mat to lay groups of 10s and single units to represent a given number on a card. After the student shows the amount using blocks, he will self-check by turning the card over to see if the picture on the back looks the same as the blocks on his mat. He can continue practicing using the 16 cards provided.
Once again, this hands-on activity engages children in their learning and helps give them a sense of accomplishment while practicing an important skill.
