This Sight Word Practice Book (List 1) is great to help reinforce the identification of common sight words without the need for “drill and kill”! Students are motivated to read the words to make their own book to take home. They love coloring the Super Hero when they have finished with their page. This Dolch list book is organized by the order of word frequency. The words in this product are: the, to, and, he, a, I, you, if, of, in, was, said, his, that, she, for, on, they, but, had
Directions for making the book are included. For your convenience, we have made 2 books per page. Simply print the pages, cut down the middle of the page to form 2 books and staple the half pages together.
Students (1) look at the word, (2) write the word, (3) circle the word in a phrase or sentence and (4) cut and paste the letters in the correct order in the provided boxes. Students then write their own sentence using the focus word on the back of the page.

It is important for young readers to instantly recognize words by sight in order to build reading fluency. It is also important for readers to practice words in meaningful context through phrase and sentence reading practice.
This product addresses the following Common Core* Language Arts Standards for K, 1st 2nd and 3rd grade:
RF.K.3.d. Read common high-frequency words by sight (e.g., the, of, to, you, she, my, is, are, do, does).
RF.1.3.g. Recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.
RF.2.3. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Identify words with inconsistent but common spelling-sound correspondences. Recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.
RF.2.4. Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.
SL.2.6. Produce complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation in order to provide requested detail or clarification.
L.2.1. Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking. Use adjectives and adverbs, and choose between them depending on what is to be modified. Produce, expand, and rearrange complete simple and compound sentences (e.g., The boy watched the movie; The little boy watched the movie; The action movie was watched by the little boy).
