Sight Word Parking Lot 1
Includes: an, am, as, at, do, if, is, it, kid, love, no, so, sat, up & yes
A game to reinforce and expand sight word vocabulary in a fun hands-on way! Students love moving Matchbox type cars around their own personal board as they broaden their sight word foundation.
1. A Printable Sight Word Parking Lot for each child (laminate for durability & use from year to year)
2. Printable set of Teacher's sight word cards (cut these out)
3. Matchbox car or other small vehicle or object (i.e. penny, Bingo chip) to use as a marker
Many ways to play, including, but not limited to:
A. Teacher will hold up a sight word card and all students will move their "vehicle" to the appropriate spot on the board, park it, say the word aloud or whisper read it to the peer sitting closest to them and then wait to be shown the next word.
B. Teacher shows the first child a word and he/she has 3 seconds to move their vehicle to the correct spot. Play passes to the next child if they are unable to locate the corresponding sight word.
C. Partner pairs can take turns showing each other the cards and moving to the appropriate spots. (It's a good idea to print multiple sets of teacher cards if you are going to have your class play this way)
D. Alternately, for an additional challenge, you can simply "Say" the Sight Word without showing it and students need to drive their vehicle to the correct spot on their playing board.
