Ready for some sentence-building fun? Want some ideas to move beyond flashcards and Bingo games to teach sight words? Sight Word Sentence Frames teach sight words in context while developing vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency. Children build a sentence frame with sight word cards. Then they use active comprehension strategies to complete the sentence with vocabulary cards (supported by photographs) so the sentence makes sense. These materials are perfect to place at your literacy center. The unit includes a student tracking form and bookmaking materials so children can write the sentences they create to make take-home sight word books. Also perfect for English Language Learners.

* 36 vocabulary photo cards
* 3 sentence frames
Sight words: are, but, down, I, in, like, look, my, on, play, ride, see, the, there, they, to, two, under, up, want
Two of the frames include position words (up, down, in, on, under). The third frame asks children to identify things you can ride and games you can play using the verbs "play" and "ride." Sentence structures are simple.
This set includes units 5-7. There are 35 units in all that teach and reinforce over 140 sight words and 300 photo-supported vocabulary words.

Carolea, This year I am teaching Middle School English Language Learners and once again using your sentence frames. Last year I was the students with moderate cognitive challenges and I worked on 1-4 for months. This year my students are screaming through the material - 1-7 in 3 days. I am assessing them daily and they are retaining the material and adding to their vocabulary exponentially! Also, they love the exercises. I have added a True/False assessment component in which I make up nonsense sentences with the words in each lesson and I have made word cards with only text and with only pictures that are color coded to match your set. They love it! Thank you so much.

This has been a wonderful addition to my Word Work/Writing stations for Daily 5. My students work on putting the sentences together and then write and illustrate them. I have them share their sentences afterwards. They are such proud readers! My students love the pictures!

That is great! The sentence-building activities make great center work. You can use the reproducible tracking form to create a folder for each student. Then children can keep track of the frames they have completed--adds accountability and is a great help for center management.

I have over 20 years of experience teaching and developing classroom resources. Over the years, one thing has remained consistent--my students LOVE to look at real-life photos. The images are colorful, motivating, and great for vocabulary development. So, I created a brand of classroom resources, called "Teach Bright," that includes photography in every resource. My students have lots of fun using the colorful photos for hands-on sorting and sentence-building fun. I hope you and your students enjoy them too!
