This is a five-lesson unit plan for grade 3 - 5 students which re-introduces the concepts of force, effort and load and develops them into group activities which explore the world of simple machines. Students apply the use of these simple machines (gears, pulleys, levers)to their real world applications. Co-operative learning is emphasised in these lessons as many of the manipulatives to be used are inexpensive, easily available and are simple everyday items that can be found in the kitchen. Assessment methods to be used are both formative and summative. Worksheets and pictures of materials that I have used for these lessons are included.

I appreciate the teaching ideas, but this seems to have a lot of extraneous information. It would be a more practical resource if some of the unnecessary pages were removed.

Thank you for the feedback. I believe you are referring to the information at the front. It was put there to validate the need for teaching science. I know that there are teachers out there who are intimidated by it. So just see it as an extra feature that comes along with the unit. What I'll do is subtract the sum of these sheets from the total amount in the product descriptions.
