Skipppyjon Jones is a delightful picture book by Judy Schachner. This unit provides vocabulary cards and two pages of practice with vocabulary words. A paraphrasing activity builds comprehension and writing skills. A "Read and Think" activity gets students into the text to focus on words meanings, compound words, verbs, synonyms, and rhyming words. And a reading comprehension activity can be used as a final assessment.

As an elementary teacher for 33 years, I have struggled with a lack of quality materials that provide the necessary practice for concept mastery. It has been my experience that many textbooks and commercially produced materials do not provide the depth of practice and repetition required for student mastery. I have been writing most of my own supplemental materials for years, striving to meet the needs of students who need more than one or two exposures to a concept in order to achieve mastery. My many years in the classroom have provided me opportunities to work with changing curriculum standards and increasing demands for student performance. I have worked with second and third graders throughout my career and have a very solid understanding of the learning process and the needs of young students.
