Students love to interact with the Smartboard! Take advantage of this with my fun apple-themed attendance file. Once you set this up with your students' names following the included directions, you are good to go for the rest of the year! When students enter the classroom in the morning, they drag their apple to the pie. You can easily tell who is absent because their apple has not been moved. The important thing is to NOT save the file each day. That way it will reset with the apples back in their original positions.

Used this on our Johnny Appleseed Day and my k kids loved it!! What a great and fun way to assess the kids on name recognition of their own name as well as the names of their classmates! Thanks for sharing!

I am sure it is still JUST me!! But I can't seem to find the select part you are talking about- what I see wont allow me to Group.... I am using a PC....

Hi Staci,
This is what I do for my PC, (but it might be different on a Mac if that's what you have.) Make sure you are in select mode, (the arrow with the thick point). First click on the outer border of the apple to select it. Then hold down "control" and then click on the apple to select it. Once both are selected and you see two little triangles, you can let go of control, click on either of the little triangles to open the drop-down menu, and choose grouping-group. Repeat for the others.
If this doesn't work for you, maybe you can let me know exactly which part you are having trouble with. We'll figure it out!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This will be my 15th year teaching, but I began 33 years ago. I left the profession for 18 years to raise my children and did a variety of part-time jobs. This is my 7th year back, and I'm still on the learning curve! I currently teach 4th grade, which I think is the perfect grade for me. I love to integrate technology into my classroom with my SMARTBoard, and this year, I will be exploring best uses for iPads, as I received a grant to have 6 in my classroom. I'm hoping that curiosity keeps my brain cells young!
