This is a 130 slide PowerPoint presentation with built-in class notes (red slides), step by step drawings / diagrams, challenge questions with answers, build a sun dial activity, links, one page homework / classwork, less notes, and more.
-Note-This PowerPoint is embedded in my solar systems basic PowerPoint that I offer on TpT so please do not purchase both.
This PowerPoint begins with some neat images of the Sun, Earth, Moon. The Moon's orbit around the Earth, and shadows from the Sun are addressed. These slides are missing form the preview because they exceeded 5 mb. The axial tilt of the Earth and reference to the seasons is described. Obelisks are described and some warm-up questions for the upcoming activity are asked. An activity about building a Sun Dial to be used outside is described with step by step instructions and visuals. A pin secured in some modeling clay taped to a notebook will also work. The activity has students record the position of the Sun Dial's shadow every 5 minutes for a half hour. Follow-up questions with answers are described. A sunny day is needed for this activity to be successful. A lunar eclipse is described and a step by step drawing unfolds every slide making it easy for the students to follow. Important vocabulary is addressed such as umbra and penumbra. Solar Eclipse follows in similar fashion but includes a bit more such as the Path of Totality. A neat Moon's perspective of the Solar Eclipse is provided. Exciting visuals make this a really neat and educational PowerPoint. The step by step process is key for the students to grasp some difficult concepts.
This PowerPoint includes critical notes (Red Slides), exciting visuals, challenge questions, activities with directions and more. Text is usually placed at the top of the slide so it can be read from all angles of a classroom. Color coded slides, as well as a shade technique is used to increase student focus and allows the teacher to control the pace of the lesson. These PowerPoints are meant to be interactive as possible and ask many questions, provides built in review opportunities, explains directions to activities, and much more. Transition effects are never used.
Please visit my other posting on TpT called The Astronomy Topics Unit which includes this PowerPoint within the 2830+ slide PowerPoint roadmap, 13 page bundled homework / assessment, 10 page modified assessment, detailed answer keys, and 7 pages of unit notes for students who may require assistance that chronologically follow the PowerPoint slideshow. The answer keys and unit notes are great for support professionals. This larger file also includes four PowerPoint review games (110+ slides each with Answers), 38 .flv videos, lab handouts, activity sheets, rubrics, materials list, templates, guides, and much more. Also included is a 190 slide first day of school PowerPoint presentation. This Unit is a digital download, but requires that you email me at ryemurf@gmail.com after checkout so I can send it to you through another company because it is too large for the TpT uploader. I use another company called PayLoadz.com which can send large files. TpT only sends me your user name on a digital download good so you will need to contact me with your email address so I can send it to you digitally. The cost of this larger unit is $9.99 The unit takes between 40-60 minutes to download once I have sent it to you but this unit is well worth the wait. Everything arrives in editable format and can be modified to fit any curriculum or time requirement.
