"Practice grammar with !Batalla!
Students try to find hidden ""ships"" by putting together grammatically correct sentences matching subjects and verbs. In this version of the game, students must form commands.
Make a copy of the selected game for each student. Students should fold the top of the page up so that their grids are hidden from their partners. Each student should mark
his/her grid with the four sets of ""ships"". Students then try to find one another's ships by making commands.
Student A forms a command: Juan, ven conmigo.
If Student B has a ship in that space, s/he repeats
the same command: Sí, Juan, ven conmigo. If not,
s/he forms a negative command: No, Juan, no
vengas conmigo.
The first student to find all of the ships OR the one with
the most ""hits"" at the end of the time limit wins.
There are 6 different versions of the game:
Batalla! Basic has only tú commands. Game 1 is only regular verbs, and Game 2 is irregular.
Batalla! Basic + includes usted and ustedes and a mix of regular and irregular verbs.
Batalla! Intermediate includes both regular and irregular command forms, and includes the nosotros form.
Batalla! Intermediate with pronouns focuses on commands with pronouns, either reflexive or direct-indirect objects.
Batalla! Advanced adds the vosotros commands.
Batalla! Advanced with pronouns again focuses on commands with pronouns, and uses all of the possible subjects.
Key Words: Spanish Imperative, commands, tu commands, usted, ustedes, nosotros, vosotros, imperative mood, Spanish games,

Help
I have 23 years of experience in the classroom. I've taught Spanish most of my career, with a few years of Language Arts thrown in. I spent 13 years at the middle school level, and am in my 9th year at high school. I love both levels, and often can't believe how lucky I am to be in this profession. I taught a Spanish Teaching Methods course at BYU as an adjunct professor for two semesters, and loved that experience. When I retire from public school, my goal is to get a doctorate and start a second career at the university level.
