An idiom is a phrase that is understood to have a meaning different from its literal meaning. For example, in English we say "An apple a day keeps the doctor away," and "The early bird catches the worm," but we don't literally mean those things.

Idioms are ways for us to culturally express universal truths. Learning about the idioms of other cultures can tell us a lot about their ways of life. Idioms are fun, and can be colorful, hilarious expressions when directly translated.
This document contains 10 Spanish idioms with their literal translations, presented in a way so that you can print them off and hang them up in your classroom. In very small print at the bottom of each page is the English equivalent to the Spanish idiom. These work great for bulletin boards too!
