Sparkle Readers: Emergent Level
Here is the second set of readers to provide your students with effective practice, focusing on the sight word "a".
This packet contains 4 emergent readers and matching sentence strips with the same content to be used in your pocket chart. They also align to the new Common Core Standards.
All the readers in this set using the word "a" in context across a variety of content areas. Dots are provided under each word to help students with tracking making their first experience with reading a positive one! Build their confidence with high interest, engaging materials! Have fun!
These are the emergent readers that I have provided:
1. A Birthday For ___________(name writing and guided drawing)
2. A Family ( cut and paste work and important academic
vocabulary)
3. A Pet (focuses on beginning sounds and tracing letters)
4. A Season (non fiction and academic language)
*If you are an RTI teacher or teach primary Special Education, these books will be highly effective for your struggling readers. These are topics that young children find interesting and some are non-fiction in nature. This is an important shift in aligning to the common core.
I hope you look at some of the others. I will write more as soon as I can.

The sentence strips to use in the pocket chart, makes it so easy to model reading to the class. The dots beneath the words really help the children to understand that words carry meaning.
What would I do without the creativity, selflessness and knowledge of master teachers like you? As a 1st-year ESL Kindergarten teacher, I have to be creating ALL THE TIME and visuals are my best friend! Thank you for all you do.
